Taking a shot short stacked in tournament

In a tournament when you are in the big blind with a small stack, like 4 or less big blinds, it’s best to get it in against one opponent who raised. You need chips and are probably no worse than 3 to 1 with your random hand.

Short stacked late in tournament

If you are short-stacked late in a tournament, you have nothing to lose by getting it all in. The other players may get out of your way as they wait for the big stack to bust you or another player.

Avoiding showdowns

In a tournament, when the pot gets big on the turn do what you can to win it without a showdown (unless you have a lock like quads or a straight flush). The river card could be disastrous and with a large built pot, players may be willing to draw if you don’t bet enough.

Stealing blinds time

In a tournament, you want to start stealing blinds when the antes kick in. Focus on stealing from the average sized stacks. The big stacks can afford to gamble and the small stacks desperately need to double up so they have nothing to lose.

First bubble

There is more than one bubble in a tournament. The first bubble comes when the first payouts are about to occur. However, anytime there is a significant increase in payout, like the jump from group payouts to individual payouts. Players typically tighten up when the bubble hits
