Bad runs are statistical sureties. They will happen. Bad runs can last a week, a month and for some people, a year. If you find yourself in a bad run take the time to reread some poker books and assess your ability to continue playing well despite your results. Consider taking a break to keep your stress level low.

Avoiding burnout on a poker trip

A lot of players who have the time will play long hours for multiple days, either on vacation, after work online or in their local card room. This leads to burn out and can quickly turn your favorite pastime in to an un-enjoyable habit. Be sure to pace yourself.

Forcing a win forces your hand

Remember that you can not manufacture a win. You can not simply grind it out or wait for the nuts. Poker is a game with a lot of uncontrollable factors and sometimes the best you can do in a session is minimize a loss.

Reading tells by how the bet their chips

Some players slide their bets in the middle, with the bottom chip never leaving the felt. Others will ‘stamp’ their bet, placing their stack in the pot by raising the whole stack off the felt and putting them in the middle. When you notice a player who normally slides their bet starts stamping them, or vice versa, that’s a tell. Figure it out and you’ll know where they are by the way they bet.
