Bluffing against tight players

The easiest players to bluff are the tighter ones paying attention to the game. Don’t bluff the guy who’s been watching TV all night because he’s not seen your normal play enough to know that you’re representing a hand. Tight, aware players will put you on a hand and keep you there until they see something different.

Beating an angle

In a no limit game, be aware of how much money each player has in front of him. Some players will hide big chips in the back hoping you’ll underestimate their potential to stack you. You can ask the dealer to request all big chips be moved in to plain sight.

Pot odds in holdem

Often in no limit holdem, the pot will not offer you the right odds to draw to your hand. However, if the pot is off by just a bit you can often make up this difference by value betting small when you get there. But be sure your bet is large enough to compensate for your lost equity on that marginal call to get there.

Betting the river in NL

When you have a lock hand on the river and are first to act, it’s usually best to bet. You could make more money with a check-raise but you’ll make more money in the long run by betting and getting called or better yet, betting and getting raised.

First to act with strong hand

When you’re first to act in a no limit cash game and flop a very strong hand, if you expect that someone else is strong or eager to make a raise consider leading out with a very small bet  (1/4 or 1/5 pot) to trap some dead money.
