Play New Games at Lower Stakes

When you try out a new form of poker, there’s the temptation to just play at the stakes that are equivalent to your primary form of poker.

While it’s tempting, it’s also a huge mistake, and one you should avoid.  When you take on a new format of poker, you have to earn your way up the same way that you did with the form that you’re most comfortable with.

Jumping right up to higher staes can result in a lot of frustration and serious hits to your bankroll.  Weigh that against the only real harm of starting out on a lower bankroll rung –  a slightly bruised ego.  I don’t know about you, but I’d rather have the latter than the former any day of the year.

It’s good to experiment and to to try out new forms of poker –  you can learn a lot about your game, get motivation to study and improve, and possibly even reembrace your love affair with poker.  Just make sure that you don’t make mistakes with how you choose to experiment when it comes to new formats, or you could end up losing both time and cash.
